This is something a little bit different to the usual content you will find on Kid Magazine. But my husband assures me this is a game dads will love, and maybe some mums too… not that I know too many mums who have ample time for gaming! So if you are looking for a gift for dad, I’ll leave it to my husband to tell you why this is the one to buy…

World War Z Game Review

I had the team at Five Star Games offer me a review copy of the new zombie shooter, World War Z for PS4, the new game from developer Saber Interactive. I’ll be honest, I’ve been looking forward to this game since I first heard about it over a year ago.

Let me give you some back ground about me. I’m a husband, a dad, a ‘suit’ by day, part-time contributor (it’s my wife’s business) and avid gamer. I love my gaming. I also love my horrors – movies, games, it’s doesn’t matter. So, when I got offered the chance to review World War Z, I was pretty pumped.

Not just another zombie shooter game

When I first received my copy, I originally thought Dying Light, Left-4-Dead, Days Gone, even Resident Evil – all of which I’m a fan. I even wondered if there was a need for another zombie shooter given the large number of successful predecessors. Take it from me, there is a need. Consider this the third-person view version that Dying Light and Left-4-dead wasn’t. Or, the zombie hordes that Resident Evil has never delivered. Plus, it fills the void while we wait patiently for Days Gone. World War Z is the hybrid baby we’ve been waiting for.

Simple and intuitive

Let me start by saying that this is a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It has simple mechanics, intuitive game play, limited customisation (which some gamers will criticise, but personally I like), ample access to weapons and it’s lots of fun. Have you ever wanted to know what it would be like to kill hordes of zombies (and I mean hordes – hundreds of them) with three mates while using a machine gun, chainsaw, grenades or sword?? Then wonder no more. Pick up your weapon of choice, join forces with your teammates and get ready to kick some serious zombie ass.

Perfect for the time poor gamer

If you’re like me and limited to the amount of gamer friends you have, World War Z has you covered. The offline mode still allows you to team up three other players via the AI mode. You won’t be able to talk to them like you would in online mode, but it’s still a pretty cool, and actually quite enjoyable experience. Also, if your time in front of the console is limited, like mine is (I have two kids under five) and can only really spare a couple hours a week to ‘game’, World War Z is the perfect solution to pick-me-up-and-play with very little thought required.

Even zombie games have storylines

In terms of storyline, it’s actually quite simple. Like most zombie shooters, humanity is on the brink of extinction. From New York to Moscow and Jerusalem to Tokyo, the undead apocalypse continues to spread. As the end looms, a hardened few band together to defeat the horde and outlive the dead.

So, if you’re looking for a gift for your partner, hubby, wifey (Women game too. In fact, approximately 45% of gamers are women. Seriously! Google it.) or just want to spoil yourself, grab yourself a copy. It’s available now.
