You know the benefits of white noises to help baby sleep – that’s why you are here! The sound is soothing and comforting and lulls them off to a deep sleep. And if you have an older child or live in a noisy area, white noise can be a lifesaver for blocking out all of that noise. But with all of the options on the market, which is the best white noise machine for baby?
For white noise machine baby reviews, this is the place to be. We have reviewed nine of the most popular white noise machines on the market – Baby Shusher, Oricom Secure 870 Baby Monitor, Project Nursery Lion Sound Soother, Ollie the Owl, Lulla Doll, Cloud B Tranquil Turtle, Cloud B Sleep Sheep, Mybaby By HoMedics SoundSpa On-The-Go and Mybaby By HoMedics SoundSpa Portable. The reviews include the different features (white noise options, light options, portability etc.) as well as RRP and ease of use.
The Baby Shusher is a portable and compact small white noise machine. It plays a rhythmic shushing sound that helps soothe baby and also helps to block out any other noise in the background.
It features a strap so you can hang it from your pram etc. Easy to operate, you twist the top of the Baby Shusher to turn it on and twist the bottom to adjust the volume. There are two timer settings – 15 minutes and 30 minutes. Battery operated with 3 x AA batteries. Depending on how often you use the Baby Shusher, the batteries can last anywhere from a few weeks to a couple of months.

Oricom Secure870 3.5″ Touchscreen Video Monitor with Starry Lightshow
If you want a baby monitor and white noise machine all-in-one, this is a great option. A video baby monitor with hi-definition sound, a room temperature monitor, night vision, parent talk back, night light and 3 x digital zoom, it also has the option to play a starry night light show as well as various noise options.
The white noise options on the Oricom Secure870 allows for the option of lullabies, white noise, nature and womb sounds. You can control the volume of the noise as well as switch options, all from the parent unit. This one is on the more expensive side, but it is an all-in-one so it is time, space and money saving. The beauty of this one is that you can also run the white noise all night without having to reset.
Project Nursery Lion Sound Soother + Nightlight
This white noise machine from Project Nursery is a cute addition to the nursery and also operates as a nightlight. You can choose from three sounds – heartbeat, waves and white noise or three different lullabies. There is also a timer option for 15/30/45/60 minutes.
The Lion Sound Soother can be operated via AC or battery power. So while it’s a bit larger than other portable white noise machines, it’s probably a great option if you are going camping or travelling and aren’t sure what power you will have access to (and great for overseas so you don’t have to take a travel adaptor).
This one also operates as a nightlight with three different brightness settings.
Ollie the Owl Sound and Light GroFriend
Ollie the Owl has a genius setting with the intelligent CrySensor that automatically activates the latest sound when baby stirs within 3 hours of the auto switch off. He plays four different soothing sounds – heartbeat, rainfall, white noise static and Brahms lullaby, with three different volume levels. Ollie the Owl is set to an automatic 20-minute timer (CrySensor will kick in if the baby isn’t yet asleep).
Also a nightlight with three different light levels, he is a cute addition to the nursery. He can sit on the bedside or can be attached to the cot with his velcro strap. He takes 4 x AA batteries so is portable (the velcro strap can also be attached to the pram while out and about)

The Lulla Doll has developed a cult following in recent years! Lulla plays a real-life recording of the breathing and heartbeat of a mother. Once on, the Lulla Doll will play the sound for 8 hours. If you want Lulla to continue through the night, you can simply turn her off and back on again before you go to bed at night – if you can pry her away from your little ones arms!
Lulla takes 2 x AAA batteries and if you are using her for every sleep, you will churn through the batteries quite quickly (expect to be changing them once a week). Rechargeable batteries can help keep the battery cost down. However, over time, your little one might get enough comfort from just cuddling the Lulla Doll that you don’t need to worry about the sound element.
The doll has a velcro strap so she can be attached to the cot if your baby is too young to cuddle her. She is made from a soft natural cotton blend and is machine washable (with the battery pack removed). Lulla Dolls come with a 6-month warranty.

Cloud B Tranquil Turtle Aqua Sound Soother
This little guy is super tranquil, just like his name suggests. In terms of features compared to other white noise machines, this one is on the more minimal end of the spectrum but still effective. Operated by 3 x AA batteries, the Tranquil Turtle plays two baby soothing sounds – calming waves and a gentle melody.
The Tranquil Turtle also operates as a night light, projecting an underwater effect with gentle wave motion. There is an auto timer which switches the Tranquil Turtle off after 23 minutes. If you want to turn it back on again, it is very simple but it won’t automatically turn back to what was on before it switched off (i.e. you will have to reset to the tune/light you would like). There are also 6 adjustable volume levels.
The shell of the tranquil turtle is hard so this isn’t an ideal product for younger children to cuddle. It would be great on the bedside and could definitely be used by older children who need some comfort and calming at bedtime.
Cloud B Sleep Sheep
The Sleep Sheep is a super soft and cuddly plush white noise machine. There is a little soundbox that sits inside the back of the Sleep Sheep (held in place with a velcro strap) that plays eight sounds and melodies with different white noise options. There are two timers – 23 minutes and 45 minutes, as well as a velcro tab to attach to baby’s crib.
The Sleep Sheep is machine washable (with the soundbox removed) and it runs on 2 x AA batteries. The volume is adjustable. If your child becomes attached to the Sleep Sheep (as kids often do with their bedtime friends!) you can remove the soundbox during the day so they can play with the sheep without damaging his insides.
RRP from $39
Mybaby By HoMedics SoundSpa On-The-Go
This is another portable white noise machine with some very handy features and a great price. In terms of portability, the SoundSpa On-The-Go is lightweight and compact. It has a clip for attaching to the pram/cot and a little pop-out stand if you want to leave it on a table or bedside.
There are four sounds – heartbeat, white noise, ocean and lullaby. The volume is adjustable and there is three auto switch off timers – 15, 30 and 45 minutes. Or alternatively, you can leave the timer off and the SoundSpa will run until you turn it off. It is a battery white noise machine, operated by 3 x AAA batteries.
We did notice some static feedback from the unit, but this isn’t really a huge issue when it comes to white noise.

Mybaby by HoMedics SoundSpa Portable
This is a larger version of the SoundSpa On-The-Go with a few extra features. The first difference is the size as this is a larger unit. It is still very light, especially when it doesn’t have batteries in. The second difference is the noises. The SoundSpa Portable has six sounds – white noise, ocean, heartbeat, summer night, thunder and brook. All very soothing and relaxing.
The SoundSpa Portable has three different timer options – 15, 30 or 60 minutes, or like the SoundSpa On-The-Go you can operate it like a white noise machine without a timer and leave it to run until you turn it off. There are two power options – AC or 4 x AA batteries making it a flexible white noise machine option for travel etc. The volume is easily adjusted with a dial.
