Introducing Telma Da Silva from the delightful kids brand Tik e ta. This Portugese born mum of two has dreams to launch her brand to the iternational market and one day make it to New York. A lover of polka dots and skulls, Telma has created a range of clothing for kids aged 2-8 that is upbeat and funky – perfect for little ones with spunk!

How do you make time for yourself in your routine?

I don’t! (Telma laughs) I lead a very busy life and it is hard trying to juggle everything. Only when my husband is home do I have time to myself, but it can be very tricky. Despite the chaos I do make sure that every Sunday is family time; we usually go out for breakfast, then to the park or do something spontaneous. Family is everything to me so I make sure we have time to just hang out and be together.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you were younger?

My biggest learning curve was when I was 22 years old and travelled around Europe for 2 years. I left a girl and came back a woman with a completely new outlook on life. I learnt a lot about myself and what I wanted in life, so I would really recommend travelling, seeing the world and getting out of your comfort zone.

I also never finished my studies and I wish I had as it’s a lot easier to do while you’re young. I now know how important an education is and have learnt to study hard, as well as save your money for the good things in life!

Above all fashion is all I have ever known since school; doing arts and textiles I always knew I wanted to do this, and now my dream is starting to come true!

What is your personal mantra?

Peace, love and harmony. Take each day as it comes. You only live once, so experience it all while you can!

Where is your favourite holiday destination?

PORTUGAL! I was born in Portugal, my family is from there and I have been going every two years with my family since I can remember. I’m not being biased, I’ve travelled majority of Europe, but nothing compares….it’s the whole experience; the people, the great food, the amazing water….it’s just so cool! This time last year my husband and I took our two kids Turi and Yara and they loved it and still talk about it!

What would we find inside your handbag?

Some would compare my handbag to Mary Poppins….. Wallet, diary, pawpaw, Chanel lipstick and lip glosses, Dettol hand wash, Colab sunglasses, tissues, camera, little purse, hand cream, thermometer, Grandmas clip on earrings, big safety pin, pen, pencil, liquid paper and business cards

What can’t you live without?

My IPhone! As sad as it sounds it’s actually my life, I use it for everything!

How would you describe your style?

I’d like to think I have my own style. Even though (and I hate to admit)… I am a labels person; I do try and put my own personal touch on each of my looks.

I LOVE polka dots and skulls, big or small, which is evident through my Tik e ta range. I also love my blacks, navies and khakis…so I guess my style is sort of simple with a bit of a twist.

I own about 50 pairs of jeans; I love jeans and used to be a real jean junkie, especially for nudies! I also love sneakers! I have so many pairs and I don’t even wear them…. I buy them because I love them and then I wear them once and never again (Telma laughs). But I will never get rid of them as I hope my kids will wear them someday!

Where are your favourite places to shop – online and boutiques?

I shop at a few cute boutiques in Newtown including Pretty Dog and Mapel. I also love my Carol Walkers,Romance was Born and Antipodium. I don’t shop online; I actually hate it and don’t think it is fair to retailers. I’d rather shop in-store so I can feel, touch and actually see the garment in person. Funnily enough I hate trying stuff on (except for shoes), which sounds a bit contradictory but I can never be bothered! (Telma laughs).
