Smoothies are my go to breakfast. When I was in those early newborn days I would get up, make a smoothie while Olivia sat in her bouncer and then take the smoothie with me to wherever I was going to do the morning feed. I didn’t need to worry about holding a plate or dropping crumbs all over her and I knew I was getting at least some fruit in for the morning.

Now that Olivia is a super active toddler, I can throw all the ingredients in the blender and blitz it up while I’m getting her breakfast ready. Then I can happily sip away on my smoothie while I’m catching flying pieces of toast and fruit. Win/win.

I remember as I kid, the only smoothie I even thought about was a banana smoothie. I thought it was something of a treat and was so excited to discover mums 70s blender that I could make home made smoothies in. Until I didn’t screw the bottom on properly one day and burnt out the motor with milk, but that’s another story.

These days I experiment a lot more with fruit and flavour combinations but there is still something so comforting about a beautiful banana smoothie. My current favourite ingredient to add is peanut butter. It gives the smoothie such a deliciously thick texture and almost feels a bit naughty.

Banana and peanut butter smoothie recipe

1 cup milk
1 ripe banana
1 tbsp smooth peanut butter

Place all ingredients in the blender and whiz until combined.
