Don’t you love that time of year when mangoes start appearing in the shops? That gorgeous whiff of mango you get whenever you walk past them is probably one of my favourite smells of summer. As a kid I was mango obsessed. For my first birthday, my grandparents gave me a mango and an apron because they had never seen a child attack a mango with such passion as I did. I also love green tea, well, any tea really. So I had the idea of combining the two into a smoothie.

It came about when I had made a cup of tea in the morning and never got a chance to drink it before it went cold. I had some mango cubes in the freezer so I thought, why not combine the two? Smoothies are such an easy breakfast option. Blitz them up while you are making the kids breakfast and you can drink them on the go or while trying to get food into the kids! This recipe is very refreshing, summery and delicious!

Mango and green tea smoothie

1 cup milk
1/2 cup cold green tea
1 tbsp yoghurt
1 large handful of frozen mango

Place all ingredients in the blender and whiz until combined.

If you have fresh mango instead of frozen, you can use the flesh of a large mango plus 4-5 ice cubes to substitute the frozen mango.

This recipe is perfect for those mornings when you make a cup of green tea but don’t get a chance to drink it. If you want to quickly make your green tea cold, simply make it up with a little less boiling water than normal and throw in a few ice cubes to chill it. You could also pop it in the fridge to speed it up.
