Hot chips are my weakness. I have loved them since I was a kid and probably eat way more than I should. To try and curb my love of the deep fried version I have worked hard over the years to perfect my home made chips. Normally I bake them in the oven but sometimes you just need to make them a bit quicker. That is where this recipe comes in. It takes less than 15 minutes to make this version and you won’t regret it!

Quick hot chips

Serves 2


2 large potatoes, cut into chip shaped wedges
1 tbsp olive oil
Chicken salt or sea salt to season


Pop the cut up chips into a microwave steamer and microwave on high for 3 minutes. Depending on your microwave you might need to cook them for a bit longer. They need to be tender to touch but not falling apart.

While the potatoes are cooking, heat the oil in a frying pan on medium heat.

Add the potatoes to the frying pan when cooked. Cook, tossing for 8-10 minutes until the chips have started to crisp up. You will need to turn the chips a few times.

Add the chicken or sea salt to the pan and toss to coat the chips. Serve as a side or a sneaky lazy lunch!
