Whenever I have friends over for dinner I always like to have something displayed in the centre of the table. Usually I end up using candles or fresh flowers for the obvious reasons but I wanted to come up with something really pretty that I could quickly make and that wouldn’t take up too much room to store. So this is what I came up with: paper flower table decorations.

You can get the paper flowers and polystyrene balls at your local craft store. For more variety in the paper flower colours and designs, head to eBay or Etsy. I made a few different colours to show a variety of designs but you could make a few in all one colour or a range of coordinating colours. I think they look best with a few different colours in each ball but it is up to you and the look you prefer.

You will need

  • 1 x 65mm polystyrene ball
  • 100-150 paper flowers  (depending on the size of the flowers)
  • scissors

Cut the wire of each of the paper flowers off at about 5-10mm. Be careful not to cut the wire too short or it won’t stick into the polystyrene. If it is too long you can always cut it shorter.

Working around the ball, stick the flowers in one by one. Try and keep them quite close to each other. It is most effective if you randomly select the colours rather than trying to achieve a pattern.

The finished balls look beautiful in a bowl in the centre of the table or you could display them in a glass vase. If you are having a kids birthday party, pop a lollypop stick in each ball and you have created fairy flower pops that the kids will love!
