Josie’s Halloween first birthday party

In the wee hours of 31 October last year I was welcoming my second daughter into the world. It seemed only appropriate that as her first birthday approached that we throw a (not-so-spooky) Halloween party for our fun loving little girl. Complete with witches hat birthday cake, pumpkin decorations galore and a sparkly photo booth setup, the day went off without a hitch but with many a witch!

Trick or treat banner

Our trick-or-treat table was a huge hit (although what was I thinking leaving so many lollies in reach of the kids?!) and this banner from Fizzy Pop Designs was the finishing touch. Just gorgeous! We had chocolates, gummy bears, ghost lollipops and more. Plus these adorable hair clips from Pink Poppy – not just a hit with the kids! I saw more than a few adults popping one in their treat bag.

Special thanks to Lombard’s for the party decorations. The “Happy Halloween” banners, Pumpkin man, pumpkin lanters, pumpkin banners and pom poms were all kindly gifted by Lomard’s to help make the party look amazing! They also have a range of other cool decorations and not just for Halloween!

We kept the party food simple – how can you go past homemade sausage rolls, mini pavlovas and adorable Halloween cupcakes??

Our photo booth was definitely a favourite on the day. I spent the week beforehand painting the props (purchased from Spotlight). It was a great way to make sure we had a photo of everyone who attended.

But the best part was seeing my baby girl, the tiny one I held in my arms just 12 months ago, enjoying the day with all of her favourite people.

Oh and my last word. If you have dead trees or plants, embrace your black thumb, pop a witches hat on and voila – the easiest Halloween decoration!
