French toast is a favourite breakfast treat for me and making it at home is so easy. Even better the kids can get involved with dipping the bread into the eggy milk mixture. This french toast recipe is the perfect breakfast for Mother’s Day so mum can stay in bed while the rest of the family does the cooking!

French toast soldiers


3 eggs
1/3 cup milk
4 slices cafe style raisin toast
olive oil cooking spray
2 bananas or fresh berries, to serve
maple syrup, to serve


Whisk the eggs lightly in a bowl that is large enough to fit the bread slices into. Add in the milk and stir to combine.

Spray a fry pan (on medium-low heat) with the cooking spray. Dip the slices of bread into the mixture and turn over to coat both sides. You want the mixture to soak through. If you are cooking the french toast in two batches then only dip the bread you are about to cook or it will go soggy waiting to hit the pan.

Cook on each side until golden brown. Cut into three strips or soldiers. Serve with maple syrup in an egg cup so you can dip the soldiers into the syrup. Put some sliced banana or fresh berries on the side.
