Eight kids’ party trends for 2017
Guest post by Annalise Skaroupka
The year is flying by and it’s time to start thinking about your little one’s long-awaited special day. With Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook Groups like “Party Mums” to take plenty of inspiration from, there’s no stopping you when it comes to planning a picture-perfect birthday celebration.
With all the amazing ideas at your finger-tips, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and frazzled at the mere thought of trying to get all the party preparation done in time! Take a deep breath and read about the hottest kids’ trends for 2017 parties. Using some of these trending party ideas will ensure that your guests are impressed, your pictures are Instagram-worthy, and most importantly, your little one enjoys an amazing day celebrating!
Parents are increasingly moving away from character-inspired parties and instead choosing unique themes that give opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind birthday celebration. When choosing the perfect theme, it’s meaningful to incorporate and take inspiration from your child’s interests and favourite things.
There are hundreds of possibilities for themes, but very popular ones currently include bohemian/ tribal, woodland/outdoors, unicorns, flamingo/tropical and geometric/geode inspired birthday bashes.
Personalised Event Stationery
An easy and beautiful way to theme and personalise your party is through invitations and matching event stationery. This can include thank you tags, signs, party bag stickers, drink labels, chocolate bar favours, milestone boards and more. Having all the stationery elements matching is the perfect way to carry your theme throughout the whole event.
A statement backdrop is a must if you really want your party and cake table to have the wow-factor. There are many options you can choose for this and they all make a stunning impact. A printed backdrop, a photographer’s stand draped with textured material, a large die-cut wooden sign or a panelled tissue paper backdrop are just a few ideas.
Naked cakes have had their day – drip cakes are all the rage now. If you are an inexperienced baker, it might be wise to outsource this to a professional cake maker. But, if you are clever in the kitchen, why not have a try at this style of cake? The results are just stunning, especially topped with fresh flowers or a calligraphy cake topper.
Interactive Food Stations
Interactive food stations are another way to get creative with your party styling and are so much fun for guests! Some cute and easy ideas include a cupcake decorating table, a DIY taco station, a self-serve ice cream sundae bar and a donut wall. If you want to keep things simpler, a dessert table or candy buffet will always be appreciated and devoured by guests!
Hundreds of colourful balloons may be lots of fun for littlies, but statement balloons are a more stylish and modern alternative. Jumbo balloons filled with confetti and foiled script balloons are very on-trend right now, and rightly so – they look fabulous!
With so many nature-inspired themes being hugely popular for parties, it makes sense that wooden and natural props are also all the rage. Tree trunk slices make beautiful serving platters and you can vary the heights of these to create interest on your dessert table. Ivy garlands are as stunning as they are versatile and an easy way to style your party.
These are so much fun to put together and look spectacular. All you need is a long, food-safe serving board and a large variety of ‘grazing foods’. You can start with a layer of rocket to add greenery, and then add a variety of fruit, nuts, cold meat, cheeses, crackers, nuts, pretzels, sweets and more. Not only do these look incredible – serving a grazing platter instead of traditional finger foods will mean you don’t have to be stuck in the kitchen during the party.
All or some of these trending ideas can be used to make your event truly spectacular and make your child’s birthday extra special. Happy party planning!
