Launched in 2014, Renee Whyte-Costa is the mum behind the gorgeous GFM baby products and leather head dresses. Taking her inspiration from “colour, nature and childhood memories,” Renee has created a range that is soft, feminine and playful.
Of kids fashion trends, Renee says her favourite is the luxe fabrics and embellishments that are adorning our kids clothing, “I’m all for velvet and gold. Designers are not scared to create quality fabrics for children. I want half the products for myself!” And that’s exactly how I feel about the GFM range.
The signature crowns are hand painted and handmade in the GFM Melbourne studio, where Renee’s daughter, Florence, loves to visit and make necklaces. 100% natural unstained cowhide bands are adorned with hand painted and hand cut duck, goose and macaw feathers, as colourful and fun as they are adorably regal.
GFM collaborated with illustrator Ryn Frank to create a charming range of storage boxes, money boxes and cardboard cubbies. Reminiscent of London townhouses, the boxes would make a darling addition in any kids room.
And the versatile baby wraps, designed as both a wrap for baby and a scarf for mama. The prints work perfectly for both purposes, delicate enough for a precious bundle and modern enough for stylish mums.
2017 has much in store for GFM with the creation of a new arm of the brand in collaboration with an amazing illustrator. And personally for Renee, “I seem to be working 7 days and nights at the moment. I didn’t take much time for myself last year, I’m hoping this year is better balanced.” Somehow, Renee, I think GFM is only on the up and up!
