What is it with the appetite kids bring home from school? Whether it is because they were too busy playing to eat their lunch, or all the extra energy they use during the day, they are STARVING! But the afternoon munchies aren’t just reserved for the kids.

It is so tempting to open the biscuit tin or crack open a bar of chocolate to satisfy those afternoon cravings. But the problem with sugar laden sweets is that the satisfaction doesn’t last long and neither does the full tummy.

Having a healthy after school snack on hand can help fuel you and the kids until dinner time. A piece of fruit or some carrot sticks (if the kids will eat them) are good healthy afternoon snacks. Or we often munch away on some cheese or rice cakes spread with peanut butter or even a boiled egg.

But if you are craving something more, maybe some chips, then these cheesy mountain bread chips are the answer. They are really easy to make, taste so yummy and you can even get the kids busy helping. The benefit of using Mountain Bread is that it is so light

Cheesy mountain bread chips

Serves 1-2 as a snack


1 slice Mountain Bread
1/4 cup grated cheese


Preheat oven to 180C.

Cut the Mountain Bread in half lengthways and then cut each strip into smaller triangle pieces. Arrange the Mountain Bread on a baking tray lined with baking paper ensuring there is no overlap.

Carefully sprinkle the cheese over the Mountain Bread (perhaps the kids could do this to get them involved).

Bake in the oven for 10 minutes. When you take the chips out of the oven, the cheese should be golden and the Mountain Bread should be crispy.

Serve with guacamole, cream cheese dip or just eat them on their own!
